Hedwig and the Angry Inch

stage direction, creative direction, graphic design

The Hedwig film literally changed my life, so it was a dream come to true to produce it on stage with the creative freedom to put my own spin on it.
Going in, I knew I wanted a minimal set, great costumes, and diverse, queer cast. Early on in the show, Hedwig is handed a broken mirror, which is normally a throw-away line but I thought it could also serve as great visual metaphor for how she actually sees herself; a person permanently broken by the people she loved most. So instead of a “one-woman” show, I split the role of Hedwig between three different actors to represent her identity at different stages in her life.

”This version gives us three Hedwigs for the price of one,
and an authentic perspective on the story.”
